Winx Besties

I know the Winx are all "besties" with each other. But this post is to explore who their canonical bestie is and who it should have been.

The Rules

- They must be in pairs. So, no Bloom/Stella/Flora (as much as they're my favorite trio).
- Their bestie doesn't have to be part of the club. I've already tried it and as much as I love some of the pairings, there isn't enough screentime to justify it.
- Directly from that last sentence, it has to be justifiable. If they don't have many interactions, I can't use it. If they have a cool dynamic but argue more than get along, I can't use it.

Canonical Besties

I really have a problem with Musa and Tecna. They fight more than they get along (I'm looking at you, season six). I know why they made them best friends and I kind of hate it.

Musa's reaction to Tecna's sacrifice was the greatest.

I remember catching this episode on Nickelodeon when I was...god, preschool-aged. Seriously, I don't think I was even in official school yet. Damn okay I'm kind of old. AHEM ANYWAY having no context to this show, I even thought these two were supposed to be best friends. But when it aired, it was on Nick. So, keep in mind, even if I did watch before this season, it would have been the watered-down specials where Musa got little interaction with the girl I think should be her bestie.

But what I think we forgot and what also wasn't expanded upon is that Musa lost her mother. Bloom technically lost Daphne, too (before she was cursed), but she didn't remember, and this is before Nabu's death. Musa is the only one who has experienced death at this point. Of course she's going to have the greatest reaction.

"But what about the one you think should be Tecna's best friend? Why didn't she react like that?" I'll get to that.

Alright. Time to get this show on the road.

Bloom/Stella

I would change absolutely nothing. These two are the perfect best friends. From the way Bloom is the only one who can handle Stella to Stella always comforting Bloom about Domino, Sky, or whatever else. She always goes after Bloom when she runs away, as if she's sure if anything happens to her, it would be her fault for bringing Bloom to Magix in the first place.

Although, I was sort of tempted to say Bloom's should've been Flora.

But I had to remember that Flora is sweet to everyone, not just Bloom. Bloom just often needed it the most. Besides, I think Flora would pair up better with someone else.

Flora/Mirta

I know their interaction was really only in season one, but I'm going to say that it counts because that right there could have been the foundation. Even while Flora barely knew Mirta, she tried everything to reverse the curse Icy had put on her and the minute it is reversed, they run to each other in a cute little sequence.

They're starting to sound more like a couple the more I think about it...

The problem is Lucy. Mirta considers her to be her best friend. And I think that was okay while she was still at Cloud Tower. But is Lucy really the kind of friend we would want?

Lucy: No way. After what happened at the Miss Magix contest, I refuse to show my face in public. You go, Mirta. I just wanna be left alone, alright?
Mirta: You're being too hard on yourself. After all, it wasn't your fault. Icy, Darcy, and Storny played a cruel trick on you. You should avoid them. You've changed, Lucy. I hardly recognize you anymore.
Lucy: You don't understand, Mirta. I want to be like them. I want to be part of the gang. I don't want to be considered loser, like you! Always picked on or put down or else you get ignored!
*Mirta begins to cry*
Lucy: I'm sick and tired of being a nobody like you, Mirta! I want to be one of the Trix! Do me a favor, stop telling me what to do, alright?!
Mirta (internally): Oh, Lucy! Why are you doing this to me?!
Lucy: I'll give it to you straight, Mirta: I think you're pathetic and I don't want to be like you!

Well, that was...uncalled for.

Mirta is trying to bring Lucy up, who only shoots her down. I know they make up, but I don't think they should have. Even by the end of the same episode, the contrast between Lucy and Flora is night and day.

Flora: And don't you worry, Mirta. Until we break the spell and transform you back to normal, I'll take care of you. Word of a Winx.

Yeah okay so maybe they had a thing for each other

Either way, it should have been these two hanging out, even if Mirta was never made a part of the club (I like to think of her as an honorary member). Like screw off Lucy. Seriously, I would've understood more if she was spelled, but she wasn't.

Aisha/Musa

These two are bestie goals change my mind.

They're literally the embodiment of music and dancing and I love that so much. Musa is the first one Aisha gets close to and after that, they're constantly with each other in season two. Even the third season had them hanging out more than with anyone else. And I love how both of them tolerate Stella the least.

I'm not really sure what else to say about this pairing except I hate that it was dropped in favor of Aisha becoming obsessed with Nabu and Musa being mutually toxic with Riven.

Tecna/Timmy

"But Timmy is Tecna's boyfriend! He can't be her best friend!"

Have y'all ever been in a relationship?

Tecna loves the Winx. Because of them, she learned how to open up. But she never really had a connection with any of them. A deep one, at least. But she did with Timmy. Why? Because Rainbow planned to make him her boyfriend.

Seriously, because they had common interests, they were both awkward and stood by at the party talking while the others danced (and Riven sulked). Their chemistry may have been well-written because they would eventually get together, but they wouldn't for a whole season and a half. They were best friends before anything else.

And remember when I said I would get to Tecna's bestie's reaction upon her "death"?

Flora: Tecna was a great fairy...
Aisha: She was brave and selfless. She gave her life to save Andros.
Timmy: No, I can't do this! It's not right!
Riven: Come on, Timmy. Hang in there. Keep going, girls.
Bloom: Her eyes...there was so much hope in her eyes.
Musa: Yeah. Do you remember the times she tried to be funny?
Stella: I WISH I LAUGHED MORE!
Bloom: Me too.
Timmy: STOP IT! Tecna is not gone!
Riven: Timmy! Tecna disappeared inside the Omega Portal!
Musa: The gate's closed forever. There's no way.
Timmy: No, you're wrong. All of you!
Riven: Timmy...*grabs him before he can run off*
Timmy: LET GO OF ME!

Riven: Timmy, you have to face reality. I know it's hard, but -
Timmy: Riven, you know how you can feel someone's magic vibe?
Riven: Uh, yeah, I think.
Timmy: Well, I could always feel Tecna's real strongly and I still can.
Riven: Timmy...
Timmy: No, listen to me. If she was gone, there'd be a void, an emptiness. Like all around, but there isn't. I feel her. Tecna, I know you're alive and I'm gonna find you. I promise.
