The Sugar Couple

Look, all I'm saying is that any normal person attracted to men had a thing for Helia at one point or another or you're lying to yourself. I find it interesting how the two canonically most beautiful people are together and the ones the fandom think are the most beautiful are together.

"Good, you're normal! Your title says that you adore Flora x Helia and worship the ground he carries her on!"

Did I say that?

When I say "sugar couple", you might be disappointed to hear what I mean. They're sweet. We crave it. We enjoy it and want more. But where's the nutritional value?

Season Two

Flora is actually single for the entirety of season one (sorry Flora x Mirta fans). By season two, she shows signs of longing for a partner. Sorry, but I just find it convenient that, right after, she falls for Helia. Don't get me wrong, she probably did fall in love with him eventually. But it looks more like a "cute guy why not" moment.

HONESTLY GIRL SAME REACTION

Ahem...

It isn't inherently a bad thing to only be attracted to someone, as long as you're straightforward with that. Flora was not, at least not to herself. She really believed that she loved Helia. But I don't think she did until she got her Charmix. She got it from the confidence of confessing to him, but also in recognizing her feelings of love vs. lust, something I do think took courage for her. Think about it: Flora is known as the "goody-goody" who can do no wrong. Lust is often seen as a negative. She didn't want to admit this to ehrself. Notice her inflection when she says, "Helia, I love you!" It doesn't sound like nerves, but rather a realization.

Or maybe I'm reaching because the melatonin is kicking in.

Season Three

It seems throughout all of season three, Helia is conveniently not there, or his ship breaks down. These two didn't have any problems because they barely have a relationship. Krystal and the greenhouse seem like reaches to make it seem like they have problems. Or maybe this is Flora realizing that there's nothing of a foundation under poetry and hugs. Without a foundation, theoretically, their relationship will eventually fizzle out.

No Foundation

Notice how I stop at season three. that's because there's nothing interesting about them for the rest of the series. At least they had no pointless drama in season four, but the next two seasons make up for that.

Guys, look! It's Diaspro 2.0 with a rushed redemption arc! Which really sucks because I love her character design. I'm surprised Helia didn't hit that sooner.

I kind of go on an off-topic rant here. I don't count this as adding to their relationship because...it's the Viacom era and Viacom royally screwed this show up.

Seriously, she really is Diaspro, but lamer. She and Helia are childhood friends (does this mean he's from Linphea?), she inserts herself right next to him, you get the picture. The difference with Helia and Sky is that Helia actually entertains the idea of being with Krystal, even introducing Flora as his friend.

Explain that, Helia worshippers.

Her redemption is absolute trash. She and Flora are getting along after the initial introduction so I'm like, "Okay cool they can be civil." Listen to Your Heart says fuck that! Let's go back to pointless drama!

Don't even get me started on the cringey dance that serves as their makeup scene. The way they keep repeating each other's names makes me think this is Winx's version of an apology in bed. Or maybe it's because of that stupid inflection Nick gave to Flora. (Seriously, she sounded so good in the TV specials. Why did you change her voice direction?)

I hear that after season six, they went back to the status quo. Except...

WHAT DID THEY DO TO HIM?! WHY IS HIS HAIR SHORT?! WHAT'S WITH THAT STUPID FEDORA?! WHY IS HE WHITE?!

Oh, god, please, a moment of silence...make that a few moments...

Okay. Moments are over.

A Meh Conclusion to a Meh Couple

I'm really hoping that the 2025 reboot expands on this couple. They're not a bad couple, just kind of boring. We don't need Bloom x Sky levels of drama or Musa x Riven amounts of toxicity to make them interesting. But what I failed to mention is, for a show that did well giving the guys personality, Helia is more of a token love interest. And that really sucks because the personality we do get, I like. He compliments Flora but doesn't feel like a rip-off. He's stoic and doesn't speak out say much as she (initially) did, unless it was to call out Riven for being a crappy boyfriend, which also somehow feels in-character???

Please do my boy justice, Rainbow. It's not that hard to make an interesting character who isn't part of the club, I promise.

Keep winxing!
